Amy Smith began her equestrian life in the Adelaide Hills at four years of age and has been riding ever since. The Melbourne School of Pony Equitation provided Amy with basic knowledge, not just as a rider but also in horse care. Many hours were spent there for regular lessons and clinics. Amy purchased her first pony, Indi, an Arabian Pinto, at the age of twelve. At age twelve, Amy worked as a stable hand at a major riding school, then ventured on to competition, dressage, eventing and even Melbourne city carriage driving.
Amy is a qualified coach and coach educator, Equestrian Australia Level One General Coach, Level Two Dressage Specialist coach and Skill Specific Trainer Assessor. Amy is also a Level Two RDA Coach, RDA Coach Educator, and has been involved with Riding for the Disabled association since 2004, and served as chief instructor for Collingwood RDA from 2010 to 2014. Amy has the Certificate IV Sport Coaching Equestrian and has worked with major riding schools in Victoria Australia as well as a number of excellent Pony Clubs.
She now owns and trains seven horses, ranging from un-started youngsters to advanced dressage and jumping mounts. Amy coaches groups as well as individuals, with students ranging in age from four to sixty four years of age. Amy has the communicative skills to suit all riders. Amy still has lessons herself from a variety of coaches, specializing in a plethora of training methods, from classical to Modern methods. She believes this gives her an extensive overview of what is being done, providing options for all the issues she may face.
Amy has experience with wonderful Warmbloods, stunning Standardbreds and all the rock stars in between. She is currently teaching Riding for the Disabled, mainstream students of all ages and skill levels and riders in all the equestrian Olympic disciplines from her property in Tooradin. 1600 square meters of all weather arena, jump equipment, floodlights, hot/cold wash bay, and coffee/viewing area. Lesson plans to suit all budgets, goals and skills, as well as limited use of school horses are available for suitable students.
